KANGAR, April 11 —  The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) launched Ops Harum 1.0 to curb the abuse of Harumanis Perlis tradename for mangoes that did not originate from Perlis.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said the strategic cooperation initiative with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is also aimed at monitoring traders’ compliance on the sale of these exclusive mangoes so that it does not cause any confusion among consumers.

“The misuse of Harumanis Perlis description for mangoes which are not of the variety can affect the income of local traders as some are using the name Harumanis Perlis on fruits which are not from Perlis.

He told reporters after handing over the Made in Malaysia Logo certificate to Syarikat HPA Industries Sdn Bhd in Jejawi, near here, today.

Nanta said under Ops Harum 1.0, the enforce would ensure put price tag on their items and use valid weighing scale.  

He said each trader must use the legitimate Harumanis Perlis trademark, and if consumers found that any traders failed to do so, they can report the matter to the ministry for further investigation.

Meanwhile, Nanta also reminded all parties, especially those involved in the retail sector, to continue to increase the level of compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the ministry to ensure that the business sector can continue to run smoothly.
