PETALING JAYA,Jan 13: Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 253 people were arrested by the police yesterday over movement control order-related offences.
In a statement, Ismail said 252 people were fined while one person was remanded. Most of the offences were for failing to wear face masks.
Other offences include failing to provide materials for contact tracing registration, operating beyond the permitted hours or without permission, and participating in activities at nightclubs and pubs.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,733 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 16,105 supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.
The authorities also detained 18 undocumented migrants and three smugglers yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign. They also confiscated seven vehicles.
On mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 103,054 people who arrived through KLIA from July 24, 2020 to Jan 12, 2021 were screened for Covid-19 and placed under quarantine.
Some 540 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, 94,040 have been allowed to return home and 8,474 are undergoing mandatory quarantine.
